WHAT IS SCREENING ALL ABOUT?
ASK is a FREE health screening for Childhood Diabetes (T1D) and Celiac Disease (CD) for Colorado children, ages 1–17, including those with NO family history of either disease.
When you sign up for screening through the ASK Program, a small amount of blood will be collected from your child.
This blood will be tested for markers, called autoantibodies, which are the first signs of childhood diabetes and/or celiac.
You will be contacted with the results of the screening.
If the results are positive, we would confirm these results and provide free follow-up.
The ASK Follow-Up Program is there for you if your child is screened positive.
Your participation in the ASK Research Program could help change the standards for pediatric care by helping scientists at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes assess the benefits and cost-effectiveness of universal screening for Childhood Diabetes (T1D) and Celiac Disease (CD)—the two most common autoimmune diseases of childhood.
*** SPECIAL NEWS ***
We are pleased to offer SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) ANTIBODY SCREENING along with ASK.
If you chose to opt-in, this study will also be able to test if your child has had COVID-19 infection in the past. The test can detect in your child’s blood the presence of antibodies the body made against the COVID-19 virus. Keep in mind that the antibody test cannot tell if your child has COVID-19 virus today.
Participation in this part of the study will help determine how many children in our community already had COVID-19 infections, including those that could have had mild or no symptoms.
This part of the study is optional and you do not need to participate in the SARS-CoV-2 antibody test to participate in ASK.
Know your child's status so you can be prepared.
